Our strength lies in the team spirit
He has technique and competitiveness to spare, but even more importantly a never-ending passion for horses, personality, class, elegance, culture and that unique savoir-faire as a finishing touch. His name is Kevin Staut and he is one of the greatest champions of our times. With a career firmly stable at the highest possible level in show jumping, Kevin Staut has become a member of Team Scuderia 1918.
You are one of the most successful riders in international show jumping, with prestigious Grand Prix and Nations Cup victories as well as Olympic, European and World Championship medals. How do you feel about your career today?
In 2019, my career experienced a new starting point when I moved into my own stables, in Pennedepie, Normandy. At the time, I had already had two incredible experiences (with the Haras de Hus and the Haras des Coudrettes) and wondered what I could do to develop my sport and business in a different way.
When one has these kinds of questions in one’s mind, after riding all over the world for 15 years, one instinctively returns to one’s roots. And that is what I did! I set down my luggage at my family’s property in Normandie and have adjusted my training system to my own stables and that made the horses very happy indeed since there are many paddocks with a lot of green grass! It’s a very beautiful natural environment.
In addition to being a great champion, you are highly regarded for your beautiful riding, your style and that special sensitivity that characterises your technique. So which are the sporting and ethical values on which your riding is based? Which are the principles that, as president of the IJRC, you are committed to spreading?
In just three words: passion, hard-work and clean-sport.
