Diamant de Semilly died during his daily visit to his paddock where he was enjoying his retirement pampered by everyone. Even though this inevitable event was to be expected since he was 31 years old, it came as an emotional shock to everyone. Some of the pages in his history are harder to turn than others… because this outstanding horse was not like all others; he had become a member of our family and our lives were profoundly linked.
There are so many memories in over thirty years… a vortex of flashbacks unleashed like a tsunami of emotions… your first wins, your charisma that made you different from all the others, your victories, the stressful moments experienced at your side, the tears of happiness for the gold medal won at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez 2002, moments linked to your breathing on the three occasions when you suffered from colic 14 years ago, your title as the Best Stallion in the World in 2015 on the eve of Germain’s death, when you presented him with his last and most wonderful gift…
The curtain has fallen over more than thirty years spent together, but it has been a shared destiny that sealed our lives together for eternity.
You changed our lives’ destinies. With your offspring you have marked the lives of many people, breeders, riders and owners who have had a chance to appreciate the many qualities of your progeny, in particular their strength, courage and desire to do their best, qualities that make all the difference. In this way you have left your mark on the world of sports horses and for all this we say: Thank you Diamant. A thousand times thank you for everything! You will forever be in our hearts and part of history.
